Methodology

The Cooperativa Centmans project team works according to the following methodological pillars:

  • We listen to people: we collaborate with neighbours and rural owners in order to achieve high quality socially acceptable results.
  • We rely on sources: our work is systematic and based on a vast array of documentary sources: cartographic as well as administrative (from the notarial, land and ‘catastral’ registries).
  • We work on the territory: we pay attention to local peculiarities and customs in order to improve the comprehension of the Ibicenco territory and context.
  • We use technological advances: using geographical information systems (SIG) allows us to manage the data and make it easily accessible on cartographic viewers.

A working methodology including a vast array of sources

We study various sources:

  • Administrative
  • Municipal, insular, autonomic and state archives.
  • Old and modern cartography
  • Orthophotographies
  • Bibliographic sources

We rely on Santa Eulària des Riu-born people

We promote citizen participation for the documentation of the pathways.

We identify the characteristics of each pathway on site

We describe itineraries and draw the pathways on the maps to enable their access by means of cartographic viewers.

The elaboration of this Pathways Catalogue is a unique opportunity for collectively constructing a more balanced territory

With the aim of promoting collaboration between neighbours and owners, we organize meetings with relevant municipal institutions so as to present the project, listen to people’s requests and gather useful information.

We are working on the specificities of the Catalogue

The project team works on the over-1000-km-long pathways network in the Santa Eulària des Riu municipality.

During the 3 years of the project, the ownership of a total of 400 km of roads will be specified, which will be approved by the City Council plenary, once the study has been completed.

For this project we have a multidisciplinary team, which includes specialists in history, geography, cultural anthropology, topography, law and using geographical information systems.
